Lake County, FL Property Taxes Explained (2026)

How property taxes are calculated in Lake County, current millage, homestead exemption, Save Our Homes cap, and how to estimate your bill.

The formula

Assessed Value − Exemptions = Taxable Value. Taxable Value × Millage Rate = Tax Bill. Total millage typically lands in the high teens to low 20s per $1,000 depending on city and special districts.

Homestead exemption

Florida homestead removes up to $50,000 of assessed value for primary residences and caps annual assessment growth at 3% (Save Our Homes). File with the Lake County Property Appraiser by March 1.

What surprises buyers

Your first year tax bill is based on the prior owner's assessed value. After your first January 1 of ownership, it can jump significantly. Always estimate using your purchase price, not the listing tax history.

Take the 2-minute Home Match quiz on the Lake County page and we'll send back a focused shortlist for your budget, timeline, and must-haves.
